Young, Gifted, & Black (Feb 27)
Part of parenting a Black child means teaching them to value their worth in a society which has historically (and continuously) told them they're disposable. Parenting a gifted, Black child means teaching them HOW to maximize their talents/brilliance in a world who hasn't always acknowledged the full agency of the innovations, inventions, and contributions of Black people.
This reality makes access to gifted education and resources unnecessarily difficult. Much of the reason why our children are not a part of enriching and favorable occasions is because we lack the information to unlock such potential. If you desire to learn more about this topic, join our session on giftedness during Black Children’s Book Week.
The presentation will discuss what giftedness is, how to identify if your child may be gifted, ways to support your child if they are, and external resources and programs to help cultivate that brainpower! Even if your child is not labeled “gifted” at school, this information can still be powerful as we aim to give space and light for education to thrive. All grade levels are welcome!
